Created by the acclaimed Handspring Puppet Company, representing all displaced children, many separated from their families, Little Amal travelled over 8,000km embodying the urgent message “Don’t forget about us”.

As Amal travelled across counties she was greeted by local residents and artists in Acts of Welcome.

Boy Blue was lucky enough to be part of an Act of Welcome for Little Amal, on her 10th birthday, in London.

After four weeks of rehearsal with over 50 talented volunteer performers of all ages, we created a mass dance piece choreographed by Kenrick 'H2O' Sandy with music from Michael 'Mikey J' Asante.

Our 20 minute long piece was performed in Trafalgar Square in the afternoon of 24 October 2021. The upbeat collaborative performance had moments of melancholy as Amal reflected on her first birthday without her parents and away from her home in Syria. The piece ended with party games like follow the leader, tug of war and knock down ginger before the crowded flooded the stage in celebration.

We were very proud to have been part of this important project and to have the opportunity to work with so many incredible volunteers.
